Whole-house tankless water heater installation is putting in a centrally located unit sized to handle hot water demand across an entire home, as opposed to a smaller point-of-use unit dedicated to a single fixture. This is the setup most homeowners picture when they think about going tankless, and getting the sizing right is what separates a whole-house system that actually delivers endless hot water from one that leaves someone taking a cold shower.
This is the right approach for households with multiple bathrooms, where several fixtures might run hot water simultaneously, or for anyone replacing a large-capacity tank water heater and wanting the same whole-home coverage without the tank. Central location matters for whole-house units specifically, since the unit needs reasonable access to your main water and gas or electrical lines to serve the whole property efficiently.
We start by calculating your household's peak simultaneous hot water demand – how many showers, sinks, and appliances might realistically run hot water at the same time – since this determines the flow rate capacity the unit needs to handle. We identify a central location with proper access to water, gas or electrical, and venting if applicable, then install the unit with connections sized for whole-house demand rather than a smaller point-of-use setup. Gas whole-house units typically need larger gas lines than point-of-use units due to higher BTU draw, and electric whole-house units need serious electrical capacity, so we confirm infrastructure can support the sizing before installation.
Cost depends on the unit's capacity, fuel type, and how much infrastructure work is needed to support whole-house demand versus a smaller unit. Larger homes in Farmington, NM with more bathrooms typically need higher-capacity units and correspondingly more robust gas or electrical infrastructure.
